Beatrix Blount, a 4th year Rural Property Management student, is volunteering for Restless Development, an international charity that works with young people across Africa and Asia to make lasting change in their communities and countries. They have trained, inspired and helped more than seven million young people by giving them a voice, employment skills, health, education, and helping them to become leaders in preventing and solving the world’s challenges.
Beatrix has got a small team together who will join her in kayaking a 25 mile stretch of the River Stour from Sudbury to the sea at Cattawade on 1st June and is hoping to reach her target of £800.
“I have been selected to join a placement with Restless Development - promoting the livelihoods of communities in Nepal. My place on the programme has already been fully funded by the Department for International Development, as part of the International Citizen Service Programme. This means that all the money raised from sponsorship will go directly to Restless Development to ensure that their projects continue to operate across developing countries.”
Beatrix has volunteered in her spare time over the last six years for different charities in Africa. “These programmes have been both physically and mentally challenging - and most of the time, completely out of my comfort zone! However, nothing is more rewarding than to give your time and skills to help others and seeing the positive results!”
“Not only will you will be supporting thousands of young volunteers who are tackling the traditional practice of chhaupadi in Nepal, combatting unemployment in Zimbabwe and defending girls’ rights to education in India, your support will also keep us going on the 1st June when we take on this challenge!”
If you’d like to sponsor Beatrix, please use the link to her JustGiving page.
